oh my. today’s theme would be GORGEOUS. this morning before leaving camp we met Jonas, whose family lives part time at willowlake river. he was out moose hunting and it was wonderful talking with him about his life here and elsewhere. he toured around the states with his band when he was younger and met neil diamond when he was just a young up and come-r. he spoke a lot about protecting the nahanni watershed and it was inspiring to hear of all the work he has done towards that.

an hour or so into paddling emma spotted a huge moose skeleton on shore and we went to check it out. amazing. it wasn’t completely done decomposing so it was quite smelly.

we passed the ‘river between two mountains’ tonight (what a great name for a river), where we did some dancing and filming. those photos were taken at 11:15 pm – gorgeous light. eventually we landed at old fort island, and oh my goodness beauty. sweeping vistas, spectacular rock (devonian limestone?), clear pools, the deh cho rushing around on either side of the island, clear springs. i can see why one of the original town-sites of Wrigley was here. photos to follow in the next post.
